If your project has a map-enabled, you can specify whether or not any geolocation features are required for your project.
Someone from SiteAssist will need to activate the map for your project, but once the map is active, you can specify which permit types require which geolocation features.
Keep in mind that you can only enable these settings if you are a Project Admin and these settings are only available on the web application.
Multiple geolocation features are available:
Geolocated briefings - This will require people to record their location when they are doing briefings. This will allow anyone to see where all of the briefings done on a permit took place
Geolocated locations for a permit type - This will require Permit Authors to identify on a map where the works associated with their permit are taking place. Two types of geolocation features are available: Draw on Map and What3Words.
Draw on Map - This will require the Permit Author to draw an area on the project map for where their works are taking place
What3Words - This will require the Permit Author to input 3 words for where their works take place. What3Words is a service which divides the world into 3-metre squares and gives each square a unique combination of three words. On the mobile/ tablet app, one of these boxes can be selected manually.
Keep in mind that these settings can be enabled in different ways for different permit types (so, for example, you can require geolocated briefings with a drawn area for permits to dig and a What3Words requirement only for a Hot Works permit)
Accessing the geolocation features for a permit type
You will first need to select the project you wish to enable these features for.
1a. Click Projects
1b. Click your project
Once you have selected your project, you will be able to confirm whether or not a map has been set up for your project by checking to see if the 'Map' option shows for your selected project.
In the below screenshot, a project has been selected and you can see that an option for the map is present:

2. You will need to click the 'Settings' button
2a. Click 'Permit Templates'
2b. Click the permit type that you wish to edit these features for
3a. Click 'Location' in the menu (this should be selected by default)
3b. Click the cog icon at the top right-hand side of the location settings box. This will allow you to edit the location settings for the selected permit type
4. Once the location settings show, you will be able to specify whether or not you want the briefings for this permit to require geolocation. This is only relevant if the permit type has permit roles available (you can check which permit roles are available by clicking 'Permit Roles')
5a. If you want the Permit Author to have to identify where the works are taking place, you will need to select 'Yes' to this option
5b. Once you have selected 'Yes' to question 5a. ("Do permits require geolocation?"), you will then need to specify which geolocation type is required. The 2 options are:
Draw on Map - This will require the Permit Author to draw an area on the project map for where their works are taking place
What3Words - This will require the Permit Author to input 3 words for where their works take place. What3Words is a service which divides the world into 3-metre squares and gives each square a unique combination of three words. On the mobile/ tablet app, one of these boxes can be selected manually.
6. Click 'Save' to confirm your selected settings.
Viewing the location of briefings done on a permit
Once briefings have been done on a permit that had geolocated briefings enabled, you can view the location of where the briefing(s) took place on the permit's timeline.
You will first need to find the permit you wish to view and then will need to do the following:
1. Click Timeline
2. Click 'Show info'
3. You can then view where the briefing(s) took place.
You can also click 'View on Map' if you wish to view where all of the briefings for a permit have taken place:

Viewing the location(s) identified for a permit
When viewing a projects map, you will be able to see all of the permits that required a drawn area or a What3Words location.
If the What3Words option is selected, the Permit Authors will need to input a What3Word location whenever they are raising that specific permit type.
When you are looking at these permits later on the project map, they will appear as white pins on the map (as shown in the below image)
1a. When you have a project selected, you will need to click 'Map'
The map will then show. You will be able to add filters to this map [1b.] to show only the permits which match your applied filter(s) and will be able to see the results on the map and on the permit list on the right-hand side [1c.]
If the Draw on Map option is selected, the Permit Authors will need to draw an area(s) on the project map whenever they are raising that specific permit type.
When you are looking at these permits later on the project map, they will appear as drawn areas on the map as shown below:
You can hoover over a pin or an area for more information and can click either to view the permit linked to that pin/ area.
This information can also be viewed on the mobile/ tablet app.
